Episode 1.6 – Intro or Outro
Bray is still on the road with Dawn, Gabi still trailing in her car. But the inevitable has happened. The car is on “E.” Giving in to the fuel situation, Bray pulls into the next gas station, Gabi behind him. He holds on to the gas pump, threatening Gabi with it to which she only laughs. She begins to taunt him about killing his fiancé and child. (“I’ve never turned a pregnant woman before.”) Being upset by this, he turns the gas to her but she moves out of the way. It doesn’t save her car however and he lights it ablaze, rushing back into the car. But he isn’t alone. Dawn hadn’t locked the door and now Gabi is along for the ride. He has no time to argue and as he pulls out, the place goes up in flames.
Gabi wants to know where they are heading. She didn’t think he was actually chicken enough to run. Dawn lets it slip about the whole Key thing and that they are heading to LA. Amused, Gabi keeps up her arguing with Bray until they reach the City. There, he looks up Angel Investigations in the phone book and heads there. They’re greeted by Gunn who goes to get Angel.
Now comes the fun. Gabi knows Angelus. Gabi, under the sheer shock that Angelus is helping mortals, confesses that she didn’t really kill Bray’s family, she just knows who did.
Bray tells Angel that about the fact that Glory is alive and after her Key, Dawn. He also includes information about Gabi and Darla being pains in his arse as well. Angel seems even more concerned when he learns that Giles is missing and Buffy’s acting differently. (Okay, this also throws his for a loop because he thought she was DEAD.) Angel mentions that he can handle Gabi while she’s here but that Bray needs to be careful. She was trained by some of the finest Spanish swordsmen ever.
Lorne walks in and immediately, Bray pulls his sword, ready to cut our cute little green buddy up. Angel tells Bray that Lorne is a friendly demon and Lorne confirm. (“Geez, Sugar buns.”) Confused, Bray heads upstairs to rest.
The next morning, Danielle wakes to see Giles’ glasses on her nightstand where she laid them, a reminder of him being tortured. She heads to the Magic Box and deduce that she and Buffy should go looking. (“A house with a view.”) They approach a house with thick dark drapes pulled tightly shut. Buffy kicks in the door. (Beats a doorbell.) As Buffy heads to the basement, Danielle climbs the stairs.
Danielle hears noises coming from a closet and flings open the door to find our beloved Brit tied and beaten. She frees him of his bonds and she and Buffy take him to Danielle’s after picking up some medical supplies. With Buffy’s help, Danielle gets Giles’ cleaned and soon he’s resting in her bed. She looks to his glasses still on her nightstand and smiles at the irony.
Bray wakes to see a shadow scurry across his room. The figure bumps into something and makes a soft noise, obviously female. As it runs from his room, he’s close behind, seeing it head into another room. This room is different, however. The first thing he notices is that the walls are entirely covered in writing what looks like formulas of some sort. Perched on the bed, holding a bat is our lovable Fred. She’s cautious and a bit rambly but soon introduces herself.
As he leaves her room, he runs into Angel in the hallway. He mentions how he met Fred and Angel is a little surprised the girl even left her room. He tells him that she’s doing well for a girl who spent five years in a cave of a demon dimension. Some other small talk goes on and Angel informs Bray of his age. 247. Cordelia pipes up from below them and tells him to get out of denial, he’s 248.
Their cheerful moment dies as a scream arises from Cordelia. Both Bray and Angel are down there in seconds, helping her. She gives the address and Wesley and Gunn head out to solve the problem. Bray does not quite understand what’s going on but she explains a little then tells him to go get sleep. Bray comments that they have to go help Buffy. After some rearranging, it’s decided that Cordelia, Angel, and Wesley will accompany Bray back to Sunnydale. But until then he needs to rest.
Danielle awakens, feeling a little stiff. Giles is awake and watching her with a grin. He’s feeling better and thanks her for saving him. She says she was happy to and gets a little blush-y when he comments on how he’s in her bed and without his clothes. She goes to make some tea to change the topic. The phone rings. Buffy is calling to check on Giles’ condition. Danielle is all smiles as Giles tries to assure Buffy he’s fine and he’ll never go out alone again. (“Yes, I know I could have died. I’m sorry. I’m a foolish old man. Yes ma’am.”) After the call, he makes his way to the bathroom to take care of business. Danielle offers to help them realizes how dumb that sounded and goes back to the kitchen.
When Giles comes back out, Danielle passes over a cup of tea and listens, acknowledging Giles when he scolds her for foolishly chasing after him. He says his life isn’t worth it. Handing him a muffin, she assures him that he is well worth it. She heads to the bathroom and Giles throws her line back at her, asking if she needs some help. “Well, if you’re offering.” But the phone rings to interrupt the playfulness. Giles answers it and informs her when she comes back out that Bray is returning with Angel, Cordelia and Wesley. Since the name Wesley is common, she doesn’t make any connection.
Danielle offers to go to Giles’ “flat” to retrieve some apparel. He jests that she just wants the opportunity to sift through his underwear. She sets out and basically ends up with his outfit from Band Candy. (Purr.) When she returns, he’s a bit surprised at her choice in his clothing. He changes and says he’s picked out an outfit for her as well. And he has, down to the undergarments. They get into a little dispute about her bra but soon they are both ready, looking like they could head out to a bar and two minutes later, sailors would come running.
At the Magic Box, Xander is concerned about the apparel. (“You haven’t eaten any band candy lately have you?”) Properly confused, Danielle questions Giles who changes the topic. Buffy comes in and says the LA group should be arriving about five. Xander starts in with the “Dead Boy” comments. Spike saunters in, wondering why they’re talking about the poof. He checks out Danielle as well, smacking her arse and making flirtatious comments. Giles explains to Danielle that Spike is Angel’s “grandson.” Living conditions are discussed but no final word is made.
Back in LA, Cordelia wakes Bray at noon and everyone prepared. Cordelia even has three bags. He’s finally introduced to Wesley Wyndham-Pryce. Wesley and Bray head out in Bray’s car, Gabi in the trunk, while Cordelia drives Angel’s car, Angel in the trunk.
On the way there, Wesley tells Bray a little bit about Pylea and how Fred came to be in there group. Wesley also inquires how Willow died. Bray tells him what happened and that a watcher named Danielle Michaels brought Buffy back. This name ring more than a bell, let’s say a fire alarm, to Wesley. Turns out that he and Danielle were an item in England. The topic switches to Darla and Glory (and Buffy and Glory’s disappearing acts) for a little while then moves to Buffy’s recent behavior.
Bray brings up that Buffy has been a bit on the flirty side of things. Wes reminds Bray that even though she may be the Slayer, she’s still a girl and girl’s flirt when they feel like it. He also says Bray might not want to bring that up to Angel.
There’s a brief pit stop so Cordy can get some Evian. Bray takes advantage of this time to tease Gabi. (How do you like your vampire? Extra crispy?) They finally make it to Sunnydale by sunset.
Wesley rushes right in when he sees Danielle and sweeps her off her feet into one of those romantic Gone With the Wind kisses. Needless to say, Giles is a little peeved. He halls off and hits Wesley and they get into a bit of an argument about whose girlfriend she really is.
Danielle comes in with an explanation. Back in England, she and Wes had indeed developed a very close relationship. But when he was assigned to the Hellmouth, they figured they would never see each other again and broke up. Wesley, seeing that Danielle has decided to move on, walks out of the Magic Box. Angel and Buffy head off to talk in the back room.
Danielle follows, stopping Wesley before he gets very far. Wesley confesses that he still loves her and she admits she still loves him too. He also lets her know that he had planned to marry her back in England. Danielle, obviously not handling the info that well, faints.
Bray, in the meantime, is trying to make small talk to cover the drama. No dice. Wesley brings in an unconscious Danielle and Giles le flips. But once she’s awake, he calms, tending to her.
Buffy and Angel emerge from the back with a plan. But for now they discuss living conditions for their guests. While the threats are so large, they decide that two groups will be easier. Danielle, Angel, Bray, and Wesley will stay at Giles’ while Anya, Xander, Tara and Cordelia will stay with Buffy.
At Giles’, Angel has a little conversation with Danielle about Wesley and Giles to the effect of she needs to decide what she really wants. He has her close her eyes and asks her to see with her heart who she needs to be with. She opens her eyes and heads to the room Wesley is staying in for the night.
Downstairs, Angel and Bray talk a little more about Buffy and her odd behavior. They agree that things should be watched, but that she isn’t an immediate threat.
The next morning, Danielle catches Giles as she’s coming out of the shower and breaks it to him that they can’t be together. He kind of guessed that was what she was going to say since she slept in Wesley’s room. She hugs him, her towel “accidentally” slipping, giving Giles the view.
Everyone heads to the scent of breakfast, which Angel is cooking for everyone. Tensions have mostly dissolved but soon arise again as Glory walks in.
