Episode 1.5 – Reload
Later that evening, Giles and Danielle head to Bray’s to get caught up on what happened with Darla’s minions. He also explains about Buffy’s pleasure in torturing a demon before killing it. Giles tells Bray he must have been mistaken, that it’s not in Buffy to take pleasure in any sort of killing. Letting Bray rest, Giles takes Danielle to her apartment then tells her he’s heading to Buffy’s to talk to her.
The next morning, Bray reports to the Magic Box to confer with Giles, who isn’t there yet. He makes a nonchalant comment about bunnies that sends Anya into almost complete fits. Bray finds this amusing but Xander bribes him to tell her they’re gone.
Bray asks Anya for more information on Darla. Anya only knows a few things about her, that she likes to work on a whim, doesn’t really have a plan or care about anything. When Bray inquires about how to bring a dusted vamp back to life, Anya admits that would take some very powerful magic. Maybe more powerful than they could find. His topic then moved to Angel. He wants to know exactly how to contact him and there’s $200 in it for her if she finds out. She’s on it in a flash.
Danielle shows up late for work, which Anya tells her will not be tolerated. Anya is very disappointed in her and hands her a new nametag, ushering her to help a customer. Danielle also notes that Giles isn’t there. Anya says he hasn’t been in yet at all this morning.
Dawn arrives to say her “Hello’s” to everyone. She’s formally introduced to Bray and deduces (with Danielle’s help) that this is the vampire hunter that Buffy has been crushing on.
Worried about the fact that no one has heard from Giles and there is no answer at his house, Danielle heads to his apartment. She finds the door unlocked but everything is untouched. His bed also looks a little not slept in.
Dawn is leading Bray back to her house, spending her time informing Bray of Buffy. She’s says that she isn’t surprised about Buffy liking Bray. There was Angel, a vampire, Riley, a military demon fighter, and she also mentions that Spike is in love with Buffy. This greatly amuses Bray. At the house, Dawn shows Bray to Buffy’s room where she’s still sleeping and then heads to her own.
Buffy is back in flirt mode and tells Bray that she doesn’t mind him checking on her. She likes having him in her bedroom. Bray’s stammering ensues. (He mumbles to himself: “I’m a gentleman…”) He accidentally sees Buffy changing. But once again, Buffy’s not really minding.
Danielle arrives at the Summers’ home and lets Bray know about the condition of Giles’ home and that he’s still nowhere to be seen. Buffy lets Danielle know about the coffee house Giles sometimes goes to. She suggests getting Tara and taking her along. Safety in numbers.
Danielle catches Tara at UC Sunnydale and asks her to escort her to a coffee shop. Tara gets a funny look on her face and tells Danielle she’s not ready to move on to another relationship. Danielle clarifies and lets her know about Giles being missing. Tara, now understanding, heads out with her.
Bray and Buffy head out as well to see if they can find Giles. On their way, Buffy seems a bit distracted and heads into an alley, telling Bray to wait for her. She comes back seeming just fine, nothing wrong. Bray brushes it off. (Hey, maybe she’s bulimic.)
After a few hours of searching, still no Giles. Bray suggests maybe contacting Angel in LA for help. Buffy shoots this down immediately and suggests waiting for either Darla or Gabi to make their next move. Her speech suddenly changes tone: “Don’t let her out. You have to keep me here. You have to help me.” But when Bray asks her what she means, she offers to buy him dinner instead. He brings up what happened in the ally but she dismisses it.
To change the subject, Bray questions Buffy on being dead again. Buffy tells him about how she was pulled out from where she was and it all seemed a little muddled. They have a meal at the Double Meat Palace and Bray teases her about paying for their first “date.” Buffy brings up how slaying either makes you “hungry or horny.” She also brings up how in the end it’s all about going home.
Danielle and Tara return to the Magic Box, no luck on Giles. Buffy and Bray arrive about the same time. Buffy decides to practice, provocatively inviting Bray. He tells her to go warm up without him. Once she’s out of the picture, he relays some of the suspicious behavior he’s witnessed. All the talk of going home, things being muddled, Tara starts to make a connection to Glory.
Interrupting the talk, a brick is thrown through the window of the Magic Box, a picture of a badly beaten Giles attached. Bray tucks the picture away and tries to calm Danielle who looks distressed. Looks like Gabi or Darla has Giles. Bray knows that Giles is a priority but that the higher one is finding out what’s wrong with Buffy.
Bray enters the training room with the direct approach of “Wanna piece of me?” In reply, Buffy lays on the kiss of lust. Bray’s thinking gets a little muddled and he thinks he remembers Buffy having to leave and now he’s faced with another pretty blonde. She smiles and picks him up off the ground by his shirt demanding to know where her Key is. Glory. She clarifies and tells him she wants Dawn or there will be hell to pay.
Danielle comes in to check on Bray and Buffy and gets to meet our wonderful hell-goddess. Glory drops Bray and instead grabs Danielle by the hair, also asking her about Dawn. Who just seems to have really bad timing and can be heard coming in the front door of the Magic Box.
Bray runs and grabs Dawn like a football, rushing her out to his car and taking off. He explains to Dawn some of what’s going on and proceeds to drive. He’s heading to LA. To Angel. He does however stop to call Danielle and make sure everything is okay. He tries talking in code (which she cleverly figures out because it’s plainer than a stick figure drawing.)
Danielle and the others at the Magic Box seem to remember that Buffy had scared away Glory, but they aren’t sure. Danielle concludes that when they brought Buffy back Glory must have snuck in as well.
On the drive, Bray notices a car following them most of the way. It eventually pulls up beside him and the window rolls down. Gabi. She smiles and waves before racing ahead of them, turning, and ready to play chicken. At the last minute Bray turns the wheel and we hear Dawn scream.
Back at the Magic Box, the theories being discussed are put on hold as Darla walks in. She walks straight up to Danielle and hands her something. Giles’ glasses. As she turns to make her exit, Danielle stops her by telekinetically slamming the door so she can’t get out. Darla just laughs and taunts Danielle by telling her how good Giles is in bed. She then leaves and we watch as Danielle’s eyes fall upon Giles’ glasses and a tear runs down her cheek.
